EXP 2: Week 3

Texture:

Final Model:

The Ramps

This is the ramp that leads to Cousteau's lab. The columns and also the shape of the lab resembles a pair of wings, to strengthen the word freedom in Cousteau's quote.

This is the ramp that leads to Nobel's lab. The long tunnel suggests the "thousand ideas" in his quote.

Cousteau's Lab:

This is a view looking down from the meeting space to Cousteau's lab. The blue colour resembles the colour of the sea.

The space is connected through a series of floating platforms, which further reinforces the idea of freedom.

Nobel's Lab:

This is Nobel's lab at the first floor. The repetition of stairs all the way up further reinforces the "thousand ideas" in Nobel's quote; while the large room in the middle represents the "only one idea that is good." Therefore, warm colour is used, along with the custom texture applied at the wall, that gives a soft and comfortable feeling to people.

Stairs leading up to Nobel's second floor lab. The custom texture applied is to emphasize the heaviness of the stair, hanging down frm the floor above in the low space.

Stepping into the second floor lab, you can see an 'explosion' of small cubes that defined the space. The design is to show Nobel's enthusiasm in explosives. Moreover, different types of explosive chemicals have to be stored seperately to acoid accident, which is why the lab has so many small cubic rooms. The colour of the space is much like the first floor lab, except it is more intense, to suggest the danger of explosives.

Meeting Space:

The meeting space where the ramps meet. The ramps' changed from straight to a "S" shape ramp. This is to show how the different ideas of Cousteau and Nobel meet, causing a 'reaction' even in the ramp. The custom texture applied on the floor is a pattern if cross lines, which further suggests how interesting it may be, when these two scientists meet.

The second floor meeting space. The blocks of cubes that acts as stairs suggest the meaning of freedom. It also takes the form of waves. The intensity and numbers of the cubes can also suggest the idea of explosion.
